Proud To Be An Exemplary School
It is with great pride that I recognize the staff, students and parents of the Staton Elementary School community on the recent accomplishment of EXEMPLARY status under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Only 11 out of 199 elementary schools in the Clark County School District received this notable distinction. This EXEMPLARY designation is based on adequate yearly progress that measures specific state-defined standards that increase over time.
Our school was divided into nine subgroups and each had to meet targets in Reading/Language Arts, math proficiency, participation and other areas. Staton ES met a total of 37 targets to reach AYP status and exceeded targets to receive EXEMPLARY status.
More specifically, the AYP target for Reading/Language Arts for 2006-2007 was 39.6% and math was 43.3%. Staton’s scores in Reading/Language Arts was 83.4%, almost 44% above the target. In math, Staton’s score was 86%, approximately 43% higher than the target. In addition, our test scores increased 5% in Reading/Language Arts and 6% in math from the previous year.
During the 2007-2008 school year, the targets increase in Reading/Language Arts to 51.7% and 54.6% in math. We will continue to work hard and provide the best instruction for our students, to again exceed these targets.
It is a true honor to be an EXEMPLARY school. This achievement is the result of engaged students, committed teachers and dedicated parents. With this collaborative effort and perseverance to succeed there are no limits but the sky.
